Cold Spots by Matthew Kline

There were cold spots in the house. At the pantry door, at the top step of the basement stairs. She tried healing crystals first, to no effect. Burning sage helped a bit, but after half a day the chill redoubled. Finally, following an article about fairies, she laid out a saucer of milk. The cold stuff curdled. But warm saucers would be drained. And so, she understood.

She laid out cookies fresh from the oven. She took up knitting and offered sweaters. Even after the spots had gone for good, she kept a log crackling in the fire each night.
